I am an ARRL ETP instructor for the ARRL Teachers' Institute and a Curriculum Development Specialist with the CYBER.ORG based in Bossier City, LA; an education non-profit funded by a federal grant that trains teachers in cybersecurity, computer science, and related topics. I became an ARRL Life Member in 2014. I have also been serving as ARRL Education Assistant Section Manager for South Texas (STX) since Spring 2017. Prior to that, I was Education ASM for North Texas (NTX) from 2013-2017.
Even if you're not in my ARRL Section and you're looking for ways to get amateur radio into a classroom, I'm always happy to help!
I was first licensed as a Technician in Spring 2004. I passed my written and code tests and received my General on February 16, 2005; then upgraded a month later to Extra on March 16, 2005. I am a doctoral candidate with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (research interests in educational robotics and computer science). I have a Masters’s degree in Instructional Technology from Texas A&M University - Texarkana, a Bachelors’s degree in Secondary Education from LeTourneau University, and an Associate’s degree in Computer Science from Lee College.
At home, I have an Icom 706MkIIg and Yaesu FT-847, a Heathkit SB-200 amplifier. When portable, I use my Elecraft KX2, KX3, or MTR3b. For FM satellite work I use an Arrow and HT. You can also visit my website to see my latest musings and projects. In early 2019, I moved to The Woodlands (a CC&R/HOA community), so my antenna situation is somewhat in flux until I get a permanent solution worked out.
I had the pleasure of working as W1AW on HF and as W1AW on satellite while attending the ARRL Teacher's Institute in Newington, CT, and again on subsequent return visits to HQ. Special thanks go out to all ARRL members who support the Education Technology Program, your contributions are not in vain and very much appreciated for what it enables teachers to do such as an opportunity to work NA1SS during an ARISS contact, licensing students, and getting kids excited about electronics and programming which can lead to careers in technology.
I enjoy CW, HF, kit building, and Satellites.
